Toronto Island SUP is excited to offer Paddlebirding as a way to see birds by water. Please take the Toronto Island Ferry to Wards Island and be ready to go for the event start time.
Join us, along with professional birders Kyle Horner, to witness the spectacle that is best viewed by water. We will be visiting several Environmentally Significant Areas with the hopes to catch a glimpse of some rare bird species. We generally see between 20-40 different species. In past events, we’ve witnessed a Red-Tailed Hawk swooping down above us carrying it’s kill, a rare sighting of a Scarlett Tanager, a close encounter with a curious Green Heron and much more.
This event is great for the whole family from kids to adults and anyone with an interest in the natural world around them. Participants can choose a kayak or SUP for this event.
*Please note that Paddlebirding runs on two dates and requires registration through the Toronto Island SUP website.
Instructions for arrival:
Take the Toronto Island Ferry to Wards Island. This is a 10 minute ferry ride. The Jack Layton Ferry terminal is located at the foot of Bay Street at Queens Quay (9 Queens Quay, Toronto, ON). Please follow these protocols to stay safe. The ferry service is selling 5000 online tickets per day. If you cannot get a ticket either purchase at the ferry terminal wicket or take the water taxi (The Otter Guy) and ask for a line jump if you have a booking with Toronto Island SUP.
**DO NOT GO TO ANY OTHER ISLAND THAN WARDS ISLAND. IF YOU MISS THE BOAT, WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE TO WARDS OR GO TO THE WATER TAXI AT THE FOOT OF YONGE STREET (THE OTTER GUY). TELL THEM YOU HAVE A BOOKING WITH US AND YOU WILL GET BUMPED TO THE FRONT OF THE LINE.**
