Live music returns to the city and you have free front row tickets from wherever you are!
Dawn Chorus is the bird song before sunrise. Rise early, between 5 and 6 am on International Dawn Chorus Day or any day in advance to experience the magic of bird song from your local ravine, your balcony or from bed with the window open as 50 million migrating birds return to Toronto.
You can record the songs (1 minute max) that are unfamiliar to you and tag the High Park Nature Centre on social media (Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter) while using the hashtag #TObirdparty or email them to jdavis@highparknaturecentre.com between 6:00 and 8:30 am on May 2. We’ll do our best to identify the birds who sang and share some at our Dawn Chorus
Our 7th Annual Dawn Chorus will feature experienced birders, Songbirding Podcast host Rob Porter and Toronto Bird Celebration Coordinator, Andrés Jimenez who share a 15-minute recording of the Dawn Chorus from the GTA. Rob and Andrés will story the birds’ journeys and offer insights on how to distinguish and identify the songs you hear. There will be lots of time for your bird questions.
This event is brought to you in part by Park People as part of their InTO the Ravines Program in partnership with the City of Toronto.
